    Intrastat

ALSO KNOWN AS · Intrastat declaration, Intrastat return

    DEFINITION

Intrastat is the system the EU uses to collect statistics on goods moving between member states. A business whose arrivals or dispatches exceed its country's yearly threshold files a monthly Intrastat declaration, separate from its VAT returns.

For each movement the declaration asks for the 8-digit commodity code (CN code, built on the HS code), the value, the net mass and, where needed, a supplementary unit, the partner country, the nature of the transaction and, for dispatches, the country of origin and the partner's VAT number.

Thresholds and deadlines are national, and late or wrong declarations can be fined, so traders who cross the threshold usually prepare the figures every month from their invoices and product data.

    HOW KOLIBRA HELPS

Kolibra keeps the HS code and country of origin on your products, and the value, quantities and partner country on each deal: the figures an Intrastat declaration is built from. The declaration itself is filed with your national statistics or customs office.
